I had an ultrasound today with my normal OB. The purpose was to make sure they weren't mono/mono twins(no membrane between them putting them at risk of a cord accident.) The U/S showed one healthy baby with a good strong heartbeat. The second baby appeared to have stopped growing and had no heart beat. The Dr said this isn't uncommon- for an early u/s to show two only to have one "vanish" before the second trimester. The Dr said to be glad that this means a less risky pregnancy and less of a chance of being on bed rest(which he pointed out affects my own kids). It is humbling to know that you can start with so many eggs(around 20), end up with around 8 that turn into embryos and then only have one survive all of that. Such a long journey for everyone and we are thankful for one strong healthy bean that hopefully will keep growing.
